Four Habits Of Successful People
Success leaves clues-Jim Rohn
Success is all about consistent habits that shape a person’s overall approach to life. Many habits contribute to success, but today, I will focus on what I think are the four most important habits you can implement in your life to be more successful.
-Goal Setting And Planning
Set clear goals in an area of your life you want to see improvement. You can use the acronym S.M.A.R.T. to help structure your goals and take action every day to reach your goals.
S-Goals should be specific. I want to lose 50 lbs.
M- They should be measurable. I will weigh myself every week.
A-Acheivable. I will exercise five days a week.
R-Realistic.
T-Time Sensitive. I will lose 50 lbs by 10/31/25
You should allow yourself to adjust your goals based on your progress toward achieving them.
Successful people use to-do lists daily, listing the most important tasks they must complete that day. They use this to-do list as a guide to help them and remind them to take daily steps to reach their goals.
Whatever your goal, it needs to be on your daily to-do list so you can take action and move toward accomplishing it.
Many people suggest writing down your goals on an index card and posting those cards on your bathroom mirror and refrigerator to remind you of your goals constantly.
Successful people also have short — and long-term goals divided into one, three, five, and twenty-year goals.
The key is to review your goals often and ensure you take the necessary steps to reach them.
-Continuous Learning and Development
The most successful people are lifelong learners. They realize that the way business is done is constantly changing, and they need to update their skills continually.
They read books, take classes, and join online groups. These are ways to enhance their learning and development and help them reach their goals.
Successful people have a growth mindset and believe skills and abilities can be learned through practice and effort.
Successful people overcome obstacles on their way to reaching their goals.
Many of the world’s top leaders, including Warren Buffett, read for two to three hours daily. Thus, they continue to learn every day.
Continuous learning will allow you to adapt, innovate, and stay ahead
— Disciple And Time Management
There is no such thing as time management. You manage something to keep it going, but time just keeps on going. There is no need to manage it.
John Maxwell says we need priority management. With the time we have, we need to manage our priorities and maximize our time.
Do the things that are most important to do at that moment.
If you can master this concept in your daily schedule, you will set yourself apart from those around you and reach the goals you have set for yourself.
The most successful people are very intentional with their time. They prioritize high-impact activities in their daily schedule and avoid distractions.
They have mastered the mundane and have structured routines throughout the day, from how they start their day to how they unwind at the end of the day.
Successful people use tools available to them, like calendars and time-blocking techniques, to keep them on track throughout the day and avoid wasting time.
-Resilience And A Positive Mindset
You will fail at some point in your journey to success. That is how we learn by failing.
View failure as a learning opportunity.
There is a reason that the windshields in cars are so much bigger than the rearview mirror. That is so we stay focused on what is ahead of us instead of looking in the rearview mirror and constantly replaying and going over what has already happened.
When you fail, use it as a learning moment. We should use the past as a school, not a hammer, to beat ourselves up.
Analyze what went wrong and use those learnings to improve.
Anyone can cultivate these four habits — goal setting, continuous learning, disciplined time management, and resilience — to set themselves on a path toward success.
Many people have failed early in life yet were resilient enough to keep going and finally had their breakthrough later in life.
Samuel L. Jackson, Morgan Freeman, Colonel Sanders, Oprah Winfrey, JK Rowling, and Susan Boyle are just a few names you may recognize who were later in life when finally achieved success.
Remember, it’s never too late. If you stay focused on your goals daily and take some form of action to move closer to achieving them, you will find success.
